Does Delta Have Charging Ports?

Being on an airplane and realizing your phone or laptop battery is dying is one of the most annoying and inconvenient things to ever experience. However, finding out that there are no plugs nearby that are compatible with your charger is even worse.

Luckily, knowing whether your specific airplane has charging ports before boarding can help save the day and allow you to work or attend to personal matters throughout your flight.

Although Delta started as a crop-dusting outfit in 1925, it is now one of the biggest airlines in the world. The carrier flies nearly 200 million passengers to 300 different destinations in more than 50 countries in a year and boasts a fleet of about 800 aircraft.

Delta partners with several other international carriers as well, including Korean Air, Virgin Atlantic, and Air France-KLM. The airline also has major hubs in Detroit, Minneapolis-St.Paul, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York City, so you’ll probably fly with Delta sooner or later.

To ensure your devices don’t end up with a dead battery during the flight, this guide includes everything you need to know about whether Delta planes have charging ports and other amenities.

Does Delta Have Charging Ports?

The answer to this question depends on the specific aircraft. Some aircraft are newer than others, while some older ones have been retrofitted with charging ports and power outlets. Most Delta airplanes feature USB ports and in-seat power outlets to allow passengers to charge their devices, but some older aircraft, such as Boeing 737s and 757s don’t have power plugs in most of their economy cabins.

Delta flights that offer inflight entertainment typically have USB charging ports as well. If your flight includes built-in inflight entertainment, you should be able to see the size of the screen in your reservation. To put it more clearly, USB ports are available in all seats on 737-800, 737-700, 767-300, 757-200, 777-200ER, and 767ER airplanes that offer Delta on Demand.

Here’s a closer look at which Delta airplanes offer laptop charging ports:

Widebody Jets

All seats in the Business and Premium Economy classes have power outlets for laptop charging. Although most widebody jets offer a laptop charging facility to all passengers in the Economy class, there are a few Delta aircrafts that only have this convenience on some seats, specifically:

  • Airbus A330-200
  • Airbus A330-300
  • Boeing 767-300ER
  • Boeing 767-400ER

It’s also important to note that none of the seats in the Economy class of Delta’s Boeing 777-200ER/LR Layout 1 have a laptop charging outlet.

Narrowbody Jets

All narrowbody jets, except the ones listed below, have a laptop charging port in all Economy class seats. Aircraft that don’t have laptop charging ports in Economy class include:

  • Boeing 737-700 (73W)
  • Boeing 737-800 (73H)
  • Boeing 757-200 (757)
  • Boeing 757-200 (75G)
  • Boeing 757-200 (75P)
  • Embraer E-170 (E70)
  • Embraer E-175 (E75)
  • McDonnell Douglas MD-88 (M88)
  • McDonnell Douglas MD-90 (M90)

Similarly, all narrowbody jets have a laptop charging port with Business class seats, except:

  • Boeing 757-200 (757)
  • Boeing 757-200 (75G)
  • Boeing 757-200 (75P)
  • Embraer E-170 (E70)
  • Embraer E-175 (E75)

Regional Jets

All Delta regional jets have laptop charging ports with Economy class seats, except the Bombardier CRJ-100/200 and Bombardier CRJ-900 (CR9). It’s important to note that the Bombardier CRJ-900 (CR9) doesn’t offer a laptop charging facility to Business class passengers as well.

Although we’ve covered which Delta aircraft offer and don’t offer charging ports, it’s still advisable to check whether your specific flight and seat have power ports by going through the amenities section on Delta’s booking page yourself.

In-Flight Power Port Types

Now that we’ve covered the availability of charging ports in Delta flights, let’s discuss the different types of ports you’ll find on aircraft:

AC Power

This is the standard wall charger that comes with your iPhone, iPad, and laptop. The AC power outlets on airplanes are usually 110V AC and come with a semi-universal receptacle that accepts US polarized 2-blade plug, US non-polarized 2-blade plug, European 2-cylindrical prong plug, and US non-polarized 2-blade, 3-prong plug.

Delta aircraft have both 110V outlets and USB ports, allowing you to charge both your phone and laptop during long flights.

DC Power

DC power ports or cigarette power ports are usually found in cars. On airplanes, these plugs typically have 15V DC power at a maximum of 75 watts per outlet. If you want to charge your laptop with this plug, then you’ll need to use an adaptor.

It’s important to note that most power outlets on airplanes are only limited to 75W per seat, which may not be enough to charge a new 17” laptop. Make sure you check whether your laptop needs the power to operate or charge, and then plan accordingly.

Other Amenities and Entertainment Offered By Delta Airlines

Along with charging ports, there are several other amenities and in-flight entertainment options offered by Delta. Let’s take a closer look at each of them:

Food and Beverage

In shorter Delta domestic flights, passengers in Economy class receive a variety of packaged snacks, tea, coffee, and bottled water, while those in higher classes may get complimentary beer, juices, wine, and soft drinks. If you’re in the Main Cabin, you can purchase these drinks on longer domestic flights.

On international routes and even some Hawaii flights, passengers in Comfort+ and the Main Cabin receive one meal, along with a choice of dessert and entree plus a wide variety of beverage options, including complimentary wine, beer, and spirits.

People in Delta Premium Select are given a larger meal with bread and salad, while the few lucky passengers in Delta One get more gourmet menus, pre-departure bottled water, and a wide selection of beverages.

In-Flight Wi-Fi

Delta offers in-flight Wi-Fi on almost all of its flights and even provides free mobile messaging on Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and iMessage through its onboard network. However, it’s important to note that Wi-Fi isn’t always guaranteed. While this is rare, it’s still better to load any websites or download any documents you’ll need during your flight, just to be on the safe side.

Entertainment

Delta offers more than 1,000 hours of free in-flight entertainment, including some of the latest TV series and movies with its Delta Studio system. Thanks to seatback touchscreens on most of the airline’s mainline aircraft, you can kick back and relax by watching your favorite shows or films.

Conclusion

The answer to the question ‘does Delta have charging ports’ ultimately depends on your flight. Almost all flights have 110V AC charging ports and flights with inflight entertainment typically have USB ports for charging phones as well. You’ll usually find the USB port beneath the screen, so you don’t have to worry about your tablet or phone running out of battery mid-flight. However, it’s still best to check the amenities available on your flight before making a reservation.

It’s also advisable to fully charge all your devices at home before boarding your flight. You may even be able to find a charging port for your laptop or phone at the airport, but it’s best not to count on that possibility. Furthermore, if you want to ensure that your phone or tablet doesn’t die during your flight, then it’s better to purchase a power bank, just in case. However, this solution won’t work with a laptop, so make sure you choose an airplane and seat that offers a laptop charging facility.
